“When you think of this country, a country that has always been open to those fleeing persecution and other intolerable conditions, we have always welcomed that,” Adams said. “This governor doesn’t do that in Texas, but we’re going to send the right message, the right tone, for being here for these families.”

Adams said that some of the families who were on the bus were forced to be there and were not allowed to go where they wanted.

“It’s shocking when you think about what the governor, the governor of Texas, is doing after months of traveling across the border, putting them on the bus with no direction,” Adams said.

In a statement released Friday, Abbott defended Operation Lone Star, claiming it filled “serious holes left by the Biden administration’s refusal to secure the border.”
