Senator Mike Rounds (R-SD) said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he would like to “see who’s coming in” when asked if he would support former President Donald Trump if he runs for president in 2024.
Broadcaster George Stephanopoulos said, “Donald Trump indicated again last night at the CPAC that he is looking to run for president in 2024. Your colleague from South Carolina, Lindsey Graham, seems to be encouraging him to run. Would you join in the effort?”
“In this particular case, I’m going to focus on the 2022 election,” Rounds said. “We have to get that back. I’m going to keep my powder dry until 2024. Let’s see who else comes up.”
“Do you want someone else?” Stephanopoulos said.
“I definitely think it’s going to be a wide open field,” Rounds said. “One thing in the Republican Party we’re going to talk about is ideals and principles moving forward. Now Democrats would like to see President Trump announce before 2022. I think the reason they want to draw attention away from the 2022 election and the candidates is.” Who got them. The other thing here, right now, with President Biden as much as it is underwater, their principles, their issues, the fact that inflation is over 9%, GDP is low, I think this is a good time for them to be looking at other things to talk about.” .
