After 48 hours of fighting, Israel appears to have the decisive upper hand in its fight with the Iranian-backed Palestinian Islamic Jihad, a terrorist group allegedly planning imminent attacks on Israel when the war began on Friday.
Last Monday, Israel arrested a prominent leader of the Islamic Jihad movement in the West Bank. As PIJ prepares to attack Israeli border communities in Gaza in response, Israel Launched Air strikes on Friday killed the leader of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Tayseer al-Jabari. Then the Palestinian Islamic Jihad launched hundreds of rockets at civilians in Israel.
Over the past two days, PIJ has fired about 600 rockets at Israel, including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Of these, about 220 managed to fly towards the centers of the civilian population. Of these, nearly 97% were intercepted by the Iron Dome system.
Meanwhile, Israeli air strikes on Islamic Jihad targets in Gaza have reportedly been very successful, in what Israel calls Operation Dawn. The Times of Israel reports that the IDF believes it has eliminated The whole driving Islamic jihad.
There were no Israeli casualties, except for injuries caused by panic attacks and running to shelters. Meanwhile, one in four PIJ rockets misfired and landed in Gaza itself, causing the deaths of Palestinians, including children.
Israel quickly responded to a Palestinian accusation that it had killed several children in an airstrike in Gaza by providing evidence that they had been killed by a PIJ missile that had not been fired. International criticism is silent.
So far, Hamas, which controls Gaza, has not yet entered the fray. Egypt is reported to be mediating ceasefire talks between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. If the war ends as it is, it will be a great victory for Israel and a great loss for the Islamic Jihad in Palestine and Iran.
