CNN anchor Brian Stelter said Sunday on his “Reliable Sources” show that the ongoing federal investigation into President Joe Biden’s son Hunter is “not just a right-wing media story.”
Stelter added that Hunter’s legal risk could jeopardize his father’s chances of being re-elected in 2024.
“Maureen Dodd’s column in the New York Times this morning is basically saying Joe Biden shouldn’t run for reelection. This has been a narrative for several months, and it’s getting louder and louder, including from some Democratic lawmakers saying Biden,” said Stelter. He should basically hang it up and say he’s a lame duck and won’t run in 2024. A former White House aide?”
Jill Biden’s former press secretary, Michael Larosa, said, “I hope he runs. I know he’s going. He plans to run, as he has said many times.”
“Biden’s age makes it different,” Stelter asked.
“I don’t understand why he doesn’t run. I haven’t heard a reason for that,” said Larosa.
Stelter said, “And what about his son, and what about Hunter? Hunter is under a federal investigation, charges may be brought at any time. This is not just a right-wing media story. This is a real problem for Biden. Can he decide not to run for election under his son?”
“Look,” said Larosa, “they make decisions as a family, and they will make that decision when the time is right.”
Stelter asked, “Do you think they’ve talked about it yet?”
Larosa said, “No. The president does his job and he does his job. He doesn’t focus on that. It’s 19 months! Why did he do that?”
