There was further fallout for Hockey Canada after accusations that the organization mishandled allegations of sexual assault against members of the 2018 junior men’s team. Michael Brind’Amour resigned from his position as Chairman of Hockey Canada’s board of directors, In the Saturday announcement of the organization.

Elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hockey Canada in 2018, Brind’Amour issued a statement regarding his decision. Brind’Amour said the change is necessary for Hockey Canada to move forward.

“I have listened carefully and attentively to the comments of Canadians about the culture of our sport and our organization, and about our actions and leadership,” Brendmore said in his statement. “I understand that the measures we have taken in recent weeks are part of the solution.

“My final term ends in November 2022, and I know there is no need to wait for a new era. Immediate action is necessary to meet the important challenges facing our organization and our sport, which our Action Plan is working to achieve.

“I won’t be able to see this renewal through.”

It has recently emerged that Hockey Canada has settled a lawsuit with a woman alleging that she was sexually assaulted by several members of the 2018 Junior Men’s Team after a party in London, Ontario. As a result of that scandal, the Canadian government froze Hockey Canada’s funding until the organization could meet certain criteria.
