Donald Trump attacked LGTBQ+ people during his speech from the Conservative Political Action Conference on Saturday, claiming that “left-wing lunatics” were encouraging drag shows in schools and unfair competition between transgender women and athletes.

Trump complained that “prayer in school is prohibited, but drag shows are allowed to permeate the whole place.”

He continued, “You cannot teach the Bible, but you can teach children that America is evil and that men are capable of conception.”

The president also briefly welcomed Brilly Gaines, the former University of Kentucky swimmer who criticized Leah Thomas, a transgender University of Pennsylvania swimmer, for competing in the women’s division.

“We will keep men away from women’s sports,” Mr. Trump said in his speech.

On stage, Ms. Gaines claimed that it “requires common sense and a fifth-grade biology level understanding to realize that this is grossly unfair.”

The swimmer previously said she felt “very uncomfortable” about competing and sharing facilities with Ms Thomas, Equating that with sexual assault In an interview with The Christian Post in July.

Trump has turned his attacks on LGTBQ+ people into a larger critique of what he sees as a left-wing appropriation of education policy that also includes critical race theory, an academic concept never taught in sub-university public schools.

However, Mr. Trump said, “If the federal bureaucrats are going to push this radicalization, we must abolish the Department of Education,” to a flurry of applause.

Elsewhere, Trump’s remarks by the US Consumer Protection Committee from Dallas have rattled Democrats such as Senators Joe Manchin and Kirsten Senema.

“I will campaign against him as hard as anyone can,” Mr. Trump said of Manchin, drawing one of his biggest rounds of applause that night.

The former president also claimed that Manchin, who was not ready for re-election until 2025, had promised not to vote against him during the impeachment process.

“I will never vote against you, you are a great president,” Trump recounted the senator.

Manchin has voted against Trump during each of his impeachment proceedings.
