Democrats have introduced a provision in the so-called “reduction in inflation law” that would cap the price of insulin for consumers at $35 a month, although doing so would violate the rules of the reconciliation process to pass the total bill.
The goal is to punish Republicans for voting against the overall bill — even though there’s already a separate bill for insulin prices make its way through the Senate.
Notably, in his first week in office, President Joe Biden rescinded President Donald Trump’s executive order setting prices for insulin and epinephrine. Then he spent months attacking Congress for not lowering prescription drug prices. (Ironically, drug prices have He fell Anyway, even in the midst of general high inflation.)
The “law of reducing inflation” will not actually reduce inflation, to me Congressional Budget Office. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) called the bill a “fraud.” Even Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) admitted that inflation has not been affected.

However, Democrats claim – and the CBO agrees – that the bill will reduce the deficit slightly, including by raising some taxes.
CNN’s Manu Raju, citing Senator John Thune (R-SD), said Republicans plan to make a point of order to object to the provision of insulin in the bill, noting that the senator has already said it violates the rules of the law. Senate:
John Thune told me he expects the GOP to try to repeal the insulin provisions in the bill.
He said he expects the Republican to offer an order point to hit the $35 insulin cap. They will probably succeed because the parliamentarian ruled them in violation of budget rules

Thon said they would.
“If you allow them to do that, you undermine the Member of Parliament and undermine the whole process of reconciliation,” he said.

Typically, bills require a minimum of 60 votes to end the debate and proceed to a vote in the House, but “reconciliation” bills use a special process, available only twice a year, that allows a simple majority, as long as the bills follow established rules.
Those rules include allowing modifications to be made by the opposition. Republicans are introducing a series of amendments that will embarrass Democrats who vote “no,” which they must do to preserve the political unity needed to pass the bill as a whole.
