Trump misgenders Lia Thomas, goes on tirade about transgender athletes in Wisconsin

Former President Donald Trump insulted transgender athlete Leah Thomas when he said he would ban transgender women from participating in women’s sports.

The former president held a rally in Waukesha, Wisconsin, on Friday where he stumbled upon his favorite Republican candidates in this month’s primary and in the November midterm elections.

“We’re going to keep men out of women’s sports,” he said. Trump then cited the example of Ms. Thomas, the University of Pennsylvania swimmer who moved on and later won first place in the NCAA National Swimming Championships.

Since then, many conservatives have used it as an example to say it has an unfair advantage. Trump said one swimmer was denied a record because of Ms. Thomas.

“He just got the Female Athlete of the Year by the way, you know that,” Trump told the audience in Waukesha. “Is our country going to hell or what?”

Mr. Trump continued to mislead him, saying “he had wings like this”, indicating her length.

Trump also referred to another transgender athlete, this time a weightlifter, who said he had an unfair advantage and offended him again.

The former president’s words come as many Republican conservatives have signed legislation banning transgender women from participating in women’s sports. He also criticized teachers for talking to students about gender and sexuality.

“No teacher should ever be allowed to teach transgender children to our children without parental consent,” he added. “What they’re doing to your kids behind your back is crazy.”

Trump added that when Republicans won a majority, they needed to crack down on drug companies for giving them puberty blockers to “distort our youth.”

“We will save our children,” he said, “and every federal bureaucrat complicit in this farce must be fired immediately.”

Trump also campaigned with his favorite candidate for Governor Tom Michel and spoke of his support for the candidate to challenge Wisconsin House Speaker Robin Voss, who Trump is said to have tried to pressure him to annul the announcement of the 2020 election results.

The rally comes on the same day the Republican National Committee announced that it will host its 2024 convention in Milwaukee.
