Linebacker Kiko Alonso retired from the NFL at the age of 31, per WWLTV. Alonso had just signed with New Orleans Saints this week – Putting pen to paper on Friday’s deal. After one training camp, he decided, however, to hang the cleats for good.

Alonso took a year off from football in 2021, and his last NFL game with the Saints came in 2019. Live. He was named to the PFWA All-Rookie team after accumulating 159 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, two bags, and four interceptions.

Alonso suffered a ruptured ACL before the start of his second season, and missed the entire 2014 campaign. He was then traded to the Philadelphia Eagles for LeSean McCoy before the 2015 season. After one season at Philly, he was traded to the Miami Dolphins. Alonso scored no fewer than 115 cross-matches in each of his three seasons with Miami, but was then traded to the Saints ahead of the 2019 season. A little more than a year later, Alonso was traded to the San Francisco 49ers – making it the fourth time he has… In it he is traded, an NFL record he shares with the return of Eric Dickerson.

In 86 professional regular season games, Alonso scored 588 combined tackles, three sacks, and 10 interceptions. With this development, it is likely that the Saints will target another veteran linebacker at free agency.
