On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher responded to California Governor Gavin Newsom (D)’s recent ad campaign in Florida arguing that California is more in favor of freedom than Florida by saying that while Republicans are “taking” people’s freedom to have an abortion, and that It makes it a “sort of a new ball game” on the issue of freedom, Republicans could point to the restrictions of the coronavirus and stated that he did not always feel free in California while he “feeled more freely in Florida.”

Maher began by saying, “I feel like Florida and California are crystallizing both sides of America. And man, it’s interesting, Republicans, freedom has always been their trademark. But now, abortion rights, freedom robbery, it’s kind of a new ball game with that.”

After reading Newsom’s ad, Maher said, “So, I guess my question is, who’s fighting freedom now? Because I’ve seen Republicans say, OK, we’re defending your right to own your guns, we don’t. [support] COVID bullshit mandates, you have the freedom to be free. I definitely don’t always feel free in this situation, I have to say. And I felt more free in Florida.”
