It is hoped that a new virtual reality game that intentionally frightens the user will help people overcome anxiety.

When a scary character appears, the player can make himself invisible if he succeeds in keeping his heart rate under control using breathing techniques.

Researchers at the University of Cambridge collaborated with award-winning game studio Ninja Theory to create the game.

“It would be really helpful to not only learn the skills to help you manage your anxiety, but then try to apply them in situations where you feel very anxious,” said Lucy Danielle Watanabe, a doctoral student in psychiatry.
