
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office has dropped criminal charges against him Texas Darius Anderson retracted, citing insufficient evidence in her investigation.
Anderson, 24, was arrested July 15 and charged with a home burglary, according to court records. He sent a $20,000 bond on July 19, and his attorney, Kelly Benavides, said at the time that he hoped “to clear his name as soon as possible.”
“Following an additional investigation, the burglary of the housing charge against Darius Anderson has been dismissed,” said Dean Schiller, a spokesperson for the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. In a statement to Houston Chronicle. “There is not enough evidence in this case, and as a result, it is our duty to dismiss it.”
Anderson, who played in the TCU from 2016-19, signed with the Cowboys as an uncredited free agent in ’20, but was waived before the start of that regular season. He then signed a backup/contract deal with the Colts before joining the Texas coaching squad on December 21.

“When it first happened, of course I reached out to him, and he told me the charges should be dropped because it didn’t happen that way,” Texas coach Luffy Smith He said at his press conference on Friday. “Usually when things like that happen, we let them happen in the system. I’m glad he came to that conclusion.”
Anderson signed a new reserve/future contract with Houston in January and has been training with the team since boot camp began on July 27. He has not yet played in an NFL game.
