Senator Tim Scott on Thursday defended his endorsement of Senator Lisa Murkowski for re-election, amid backlash from some Republicans who support her Trump-backed opponent, Kelly Chebaka.

Scott, RS.C. The road to socialism runs straight through a divided Republican Party. “I would love to win and frankly our best chance of keeping this seat is without a doubt Lisa Murkowski.”

Scott said that one of the reasons he believes Murkowski, the Alaskan Republican, gives Republicans the best chance of retaining her seat in an important election year is that “the power to hold office is undeniable.” He added that she was “working hard”.

The senator’s endorsement puts him at odds with former President Donald Trump in the main race for the Senate – a move that angered some on the right.

But Scott isn’t the only Republican standing on the other side of the Senate race from Trump in this cycle. Senator Ted Cruz, Republican of Texas; former Vice President Mike Pence; Rep. Elise Stefanik, RN.Y.; Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Republican-Kentucky; Senator Rand Paul, R-Kentucky; Others backed the Republican Party’s 2022 primary candidates in races in which Trump endorsed their opponent.

“You can tell how many races he’s won,” Scott said. “I mean, the bottom line is he’s still the most powerful force in Republican politics, I think all of politics.”

He added, “This is one of the reasons I enjoyed working with him on tax reform, higher education units, opportunity areas, sickle cell anemia and all the priorities we set, we were able to achieve.” “I think his endorsement is strong.”

Last year, the Alaskan Republican Party voted 53-17 to censure Murkowski and discourage her from identifying as the Republican nominee in 2022 after she voted to impeach Trump.

Chebaka entered the race last year as well, quickly becoming the consensus candidate for pro-Trump Republicans disaffected with Murkowski. But Murkowski is used to challenges from the right, including in 2010 when she lost the Republican nomination to the Tea Party nominee and then launched a successful writing campaign to retain her Senate seat.
