The firing of Islamic Jihad rockets in Palestine came in response to an Israeli military operation dubbed Operation Dawn, which sought to prevent Islamic Jihad in Palestine from launching what the Israeli government described as imminent attacks.

Israel Launched Its air strikes on Friday afternoon killed Islamic Jihad leader Taysir al-Jabari – just days after the killing of al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri in Afghanistan.

Tabari “was responsible for the terrorist group’s missile arsenal and was the movement’s primary coordinator with Hamas.” Jerusalem Post mentioned.

It is not clear if the conflict will escalate or to what extent. Israel is preparing for the possibility of further missile attacks.

Israel faces elections this fall, a factor that could have played a role in Prime Minister Yair Lapid’s decision to launch the process, as his party faces a strong challenge from the opposition Likud, led by former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The conflict is the second war in Gaza in several years, after four years of calm during President Donald Trump’s tenure.
